Pakistan's aviation industry has marked a major milestone with an all-female crew successfully managing the ground operations of an international flight at Karachi Airport for the first time.
The all-women team flawlessly handled every aspect of the operation, from safely parking the aircraft after landing to connecting the aerobridge for passenger disembarkation and ensuring the luggage reached the lounge. These determined women have entered a profession once dominated by men, showcasing their skills and breaking barriers in the aviation sector.
The private company providing ground handling services to airlines described this achievement as more than a routine flight operation, calling it a clear shift in Pakistan's workforce dynamics.
The next stage involved issuing boarding passes, loading baggage onto the aircraft, refueling, and preparing the plane for its next journey. The most critical task—using a tug master to push the large aircraft from the apron to the taxiway—was also expertly carried out by a female operator.
In celebration of International Women's Day, Sri Lankan Airlines operated the Karachi flight with an all-female crew, including pilots and cabin staff. On the ground, the entire handling process was managed by women, ensuring the aircraft was dispatched on time to its next destination.
With this achievement, Pakistan has become the first South Asian country where women have led operations from the cockpit to ground handling, a domain once exclusively managed by men.
