Bollywood star John Abraham has shared a heartbreaking update about his upcoming football film 1911.
In an Interview, the Pathaan actor revealed that this sports drama has been shelved.
According to Indian media, the film was based on the 1911 IFA Shield Final win of the Mohun Bagan club, led by Shibdas Bhaduri. Besides playing Bhaduri’s lead role, Abraham was also supposed to produce this film under the JA Entertainment banner.
In an interview with Press Trust of India, he said, “Unfortunately, that film’s not happening because we’ve been through a lot of processes, and the idea sounds good. But we’ve seen a lot of films on football…"
Initially, Shoojit Sircar was chosen to direct the film, but later, it was handed over to the Vedaa director Nikhil Advani for unknown reasons.
John Abraham, who was last seen in director Nikkhil Advani’s action-drama film Vedaa alongside Sharvari Wagh, has expressed disappointment about his upcoming project.
“We do want to make this film in the future. We’ve parked that for now," he added.
The 54-year-old actor was asked about portraying the role of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria in his upcoming project.
Rakesh Maria is known for solving the 1993 Bombay serial blasts, the 2003 Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazaar twin explosions, and for being a member of the team that looked into the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008.
The actor revealed, “The Rakesh Maria biopic is in the discussion stage. I haven’t signed a single film. I’m waiting for the release of The Diplomat, and then I’ve got an exciting film, Tehran. I haven’t signed anything, but hopefully, the day I sign it, I’ll let everybody know."
John Abraham is gearing up for his next film, The Diplomat. Produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-series, this thriller drama was originally set for release on March 7 but will now hit the theatres a week later, on March 14, during Holi.
Shivam Nair’s directorial will feature John Abraham as India’s Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh in Islamabad.
