The Worcestershire County Cricket Club has signed Pakistan's international leg-spinner Usama Mir for three years.
According to a press release issued by the club, Mir will join the club as an overseas player for the 2026 season. From 2027 onwards, he will be classed as a homegrown player under residency rules, highlighting the club’s forward-thinking approach to squad development.
The club says the 29-year-old brings significant international experience to Visit Worcestershire New Road, having represented Pakistan in all formats and played in leading T20 leagues around the world, including the Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and The Hundred.
Renowned for his control and consistent wicket-taking ability, Mir will strengthen Worcestershire’s spin department and add valuable experience to the side.
Worcestershire CEO Ashley Giles emphasized the importance of the long-term nature of the deal: “We’re excited to welcome Usama to Worcestershire. He’s a top-quality cricketer with the skill and temperament to make a real impact.
His transition to a homegrown player from 2027 provides us with strategic flexibility and aligns with our long-term goals for building a strong, competitive squad.”
Head Coach Alan Richardson echoed the excitement and highlighted what the signing represents for the club: “This is a major signing for Worcestershire. Usama brings international quality and experience, and his arrival reflects our ambition to compete at the highest level.
