The Border Military Police have foiled an alleged attempt to smuggle a large consignment of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, from Balochistan to Punjab, officials said.
The drugs, estimated to be worth millions of rupees, were recovered from secret compartments of a vehicle travelling from Loralai to Lahore during an operation in the Bowata border area between Balochistan and Punjab.
An alleged interprovincial drug smuggler was arrested, and a case was registered at Bowata police station, Commandant Amir Taimur Khan said.
He said the suspect belonged to Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and was being questioned to identify other members of the alleged trafficking network.
The commandant said further arrests would be made as the investigation progresses.
The Border Military Police also seized large quantities of illicit tobacco pellets, gutka and other contraband goods worth tens of millions of rupees during the operation.
