Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Jordanian counterpart Ayman Safadi on Tuesday expressed deep concern over the deteriorating situation in Palestine, particularly Israel's military operations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, during a telephone conversation.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Dar received a call from Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to discuss the worsening humanitarian and security situation in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The two leaders voiced serious concern over Israeli airstrikes, ongoing ground operations, and the escalating violence by Israeli settlers in Gaza and the occupied West Bank. They strongly condemned repeated incursions by Israeli settlers and extremist groups into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem, as well as restrictions imposed on Palestinian worshippers.
The two foreign ministers stressed that these provocative actions violate the sanctity of the holy site, heighten tensions and undermine prospects for peace in the region. During the conversation, the two sides discussed Jordan's proposal to convene a meeting of a group of Arab and Islamic countries to review the evolving situation and coordinate diplomatic efforts and joint responses.
Safadi appreciated Pakistan's constructive role and its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region, expressing hope that the ongoing diplomatic initiatives would yield positive results.
Reaffirming Pakistan's longstanding position, Dar reiterated Islamabad's unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. He said Pakistan would continue to support a just, lasting and comprehensive peace through the implementation of the two-state solution.
Dar emphasized that the proposed solution envisages the establishment of an independent, geographically contiguous and viable State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds (Jerusalem) as its capital.
