Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a US Congressional delegation, comprising Representatives Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner, at the Prime Minister's House, where he felicitated the American people on the 250th anniversary of US Independence and conveyed his warm regards and best wishes to President Donald Trump.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker were also present on the occasion, according to a Prime Minister’s Office news release.
During the meeting, the prime minister welcomed the US lawmakers to Pakistan, describing their visit as an important step toward strengthening Pakistan-US relations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz recalled President Trump's "bold and decisive intervention" that led to the cessation of hostilities and a ceasefire between Pakistan and India in May 2025, saying it helped save hundreds of millions of lives.
Discussing bilateral ties, the prime minister said Pakistan was keen to further strengthen cooperation with the United States in trade, investment, agriculture, information technology, mining and minerals, and the energy sector.
The two Congressmen thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to them during their visit. They said President Trump enjoyed excellent relations with Pakistan's leadership, which was positively influencing bilateral ties, and praised the prime minister for Pakistan's leading role in promoting regional peace.
Both sides agreed to increase the number and frequency of visits by US Congressional delegations to Pakistan, as well as parliamentary delegations from Pakistan to the United States.
Following the meeting, the prime minister hosted a reception in honour of a delegation of US corporate executives visiting Pakistan. The delegation included representatives from the information technology, technology, energy, mining, and manufacturing sectors.
Welcoming the business delegation, the prime minister reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to strengthening its longstanding partnership with the United States, emphasizing that economic cooperation remains a central pillar of bilateral relations. He invited more U.S. companies to invest in Pakistan through mutually beneficial ventures across a wide range of sectors.
During the interaction, the prime minister underscored that the Pakistani-American diaspora, well represented among the visiting U.S. business delegation, serves as a vital bridge between Pakistan and the United States.
The reception was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, federal ministers, and senior government officials.
