Lahore Zoo has added a major attraction for visitors with the arrival of a hippopotamus imported from South Africa at a cost of Rs 25 million.
According to zoo authorities, the newly arrived animal has been placed in quarantine where a team of expert veterinarians is carrying out a comprehensive medical examination. Officials said the hippopotamus will be shifted to its enclosure once it receives full medical clearance.
The deputy director of the zoo stated that the animal will be introduced as part of a pair to help it adjust more easily to its new surroundings.
The arrival has generated excitement among visitors, especially children and families. Citizens visiting the zoo expressed joy at seeing the hippos together and said they were enjoying watching their playful behaviour.
The zoo administration also shared plans to further enhance its collection, announcing that another pair of rhinoceroses will soon be brought to Lahore, adding to the attraction and diversity of the historic facility.
