The Qatari businessman beaten by the incumbent Petra Soerling in an acrimonious election to lead the International Table Tennis Federation alleged on Wednesday that the vote was beset by "illegal issues".
Soerling, a Swede, won re-election for a second term after she beat Khalil Al-Mohannadi by 104 votes to 102 in the election in the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday.
The annual general meeting of the ITTF had to be suspended amid chaotic scenes after what the federation called "outsiders", thought to be supporters of Al-Mohannadi, disrupted the meeting following the announcement of the result.
The Qatari, a senior executive vice president in the federation, claimed there had been "many illegal issues and violations" in the vote and was consulting lawyers.
"We are preparing a comprehensive file regarding what happened in the elections, challenging the results, and there will be lawyers handling the matter," he told AFP.
Soerling has been a member of the International Olympic Committee since 2023.
Table tennis has been an Olympic sport since the 1988 Seoul Games.
