The interior Sindh city of Dadu recorded a temperature of 51.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, breaking its previous 10-year heat record as an intense heatwave continued to grip southern Pakistan, 24NewsHD TV reported.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the previous highest temperature in Dadu was recorded on May 18, 2016, when the mercury rose to 51.4 degrees Celsius.
Officials said Thursday’s temperature was 4.5 degrees Celsius above the average temperature for the month of May.
The severe heat also affected other parts of Sindh, with temperatures reaching 50.5 degrees Celsius in Larkana and Jacobabad.
The country has been experiencing extreme weather conditions in recent weeks, with authorities repeatedly issuing heatwave warnings and urging people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during peak daytime hours.
