Pakistan produced a magnificent comeback to defeat Indonesia 3-1 in the semi-final of the Asian Youth Games boys’ volleyball competition, sealing their place in the final, 24NewsHD TV reported on Monday.
The Green Shirts triumphed 22-25, 25-13, 25-19, 26-24 in a thrilling contest that lasted one hour and 34 minutes at Isa Sports City in Bahrain.
The semi-final began on a tense note, with Indonesia edging the opening set.
However, Pakistan — unbeaten throughout the tournament — responded undoubtedly, winning the next three sets consecutively to secure a commanding victory and a spot in the gold-medal match.
According to official statistics, Pakistan attempted 105 spikes, converting 53 (51%), while Indonesia managed 47 successful spikes out of 133 (42%).
In blocking, Indonesia narrowly led with 10 from 48 attempts, compared to Pakistan’s nine from 42, but Pakistan dominated the serve with 10 aces from 100 attempts against Indonesia’s three from 82.
The result extended Pakistan’s unbeaten streak in the event. They began their campaign with straight-set victories over Mongolia and hosts Bahrain, advancing to the top-eight round.
From there, they overpowered Uzbekistan (3-0) and Saudi Arabia (3-1) to reach the quarter-finals, where they stunned China 3-0 to book their semi-final berth.
Pakistan will now face the Islamic Republic of Iran in the final, scheduled to take place at the same venue on Wednesday.
