As floods have wreaked havoc in the Punjab and Sindh and farmers have been rendered penniless, the Kisan Board in Arifwala has demanded the government declare the flood-affected areas as calamity-hit areas, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.
The Board has also demanded the government provide the farmers with Rs25,000 for each acre of their land besides seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and electricity free of cost for a six-month period.
The floods have particularly damaged the rice and corn crops in Arifwala and have caused devastation on 40,000 acres of agricultural land.
People, including farmers, in other flood-hit areas are also going through the same agony and pain as floods have rendered them homeless, destroyed their crops, due to which they are entirely dependent on the government for relief.
While in some areas, the rehabilitation of people has begun, there are several others where people still await the government’s help.
