Three wardens were martyred, and two civilians were seriously injured on Monday when unidentified assailants opened fire on a traffic police van in Tank on Monday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The incident occurred in Waziristan area of Tank.
The martyred personnel have been identified as Peer Khalid, Warden Gul Amin, and Warden Saleemullah.
Following the attack, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to hunt down the gunmen.
Soon after the incident, a heavy contingent of police reached the site and sifted the dead bodies and injured persons to Civil Hospital in Tank.
Police said the investigation was underway.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the gun attack by militants on a traffic police vehicle in Tank and expressed deep sorrow over the death of three police personnel.
Naqvi extended his condolences and sympathies to the families of the slain officers, saying the nation salutes their sacrifices.
The minister said the government stands with the bereaved families in this difficult time and vowed that the sacrifices of those killed in the fight against terrorism would not go in vain.
