UAE praises Pakistan’s evacuation endeavours

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Tuesday praised Pakistan’s efforts for evacuating its citizens in wake of coronavirus crisis.

In a meeting with PM aide on overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bokhari, UAE Minister of Human Resources Nasser bin Thani Al Hameli lauded Islamabad for evacuating its citizens.

The duo also discussed migrant workers' issues emerged after the breakout of COVID-19.

In a tweet, UAE Ambassador to Pakistan Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi said: “Constant work and coordination is underway to ensure the return of our Pakistani brothers from the Emirates within a specific mechanism. Thanks again to the government of Pakistan and my dear brother Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis Zulfikar Abbas Bukhari for taking an interest, cooperation and thorough follow-up.”

 On April 20, 1,500 Pakistanis were brought back. So far, 3,418 Pakistanis returned.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) arranged 11 flights for the purpose.

The UAE government announced that it will extend the visas of stranded Pakistanis and assist them in p providing legal protection to those willing to stay in the country.
