King Charles III has reportedly been placed in a delicate position after comments by US President Donald Trump suggesting the monarch agreed with the American position against Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, the 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
British media reported that the remarks created sensitivity because, as a constitutional monarch, King Charles III is expected to remain politically neutral.
The situation was said to be further complicated because President Trump publicly referred to what was described as a private conversation with the King.
Under British constitutional practice, the monarch does not act as a political spokesperson for the government and does not publicly endorse policy positions.
Media reports said the British Embassy in Washington had been directed to refer inquiries to Buckingham Palace.
Reports added that Buckingham Palace had not issued an immediate response to the comments.
