Pakistani singer Meesha Shafi has taken her legal battle to the next level by challenging a trial court’s defamation verdict in the Lahore High Court (LHC) in the case filed by Ali Zafar on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to the appeal, Meesha Shafi has contested the trial court’s ruling, arguing that the decision failed to properly assess both the facts and the applicable law.
Her petition maintains that the judgment was delivered without a full merit-based determination of her sexual harassment allegations, raising serious concerns about the fairness of the outcome.
The case centers around a defamation suit filed by Ali Zafar, in which the trial court had directed Meesha Shafi to pay PKR 5 million in damages after her allegations were deemed unproven in that forum. However, in her appeal, she asserts that an allegation which has not been conclusively examined on merit cannot simply be labeled as false.
Her legal team has further pointed out that related proceedings concerning her harassment claims remain pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan, making it premature to reach a final conclusion in the defamation matter.
In her plea, Meesha Shafi has urged the high court to set aside the trial court’s order directing her to pay damages.
