A major burglary has been reported on Zeb-un-Nisa Street in Karachi’s Saddar area, where suspects allegedly escaped with a safe containing gold and jewellery worth more than Rs200 million, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Wednesday.
According to details, the incident is being described as one of the biggest break-ins of the year in the city. CCTV footage of the robbery was reportedly obtained by local media.
Sources said motorcycle-riding suspects cut the shop locks before entering the premises. Sources said the men entered the shop at around 4:45am and remained inside until about 5:30am.
The suspects are reported to have removed the safe from inside the shop before fleeing the scene.
Initial estimates suggested that around two-and-a-half kilograms of gold, along with gold and silver jewellery weighing about sixty tolas, may have been stolen.
However, police said the affected jeweller has not yet submitted a final valuation of the missing items.
An application for registration of a case has been submitted at Preedy Police Station.
Police said a formal case was being registered and further CCTV footage from nearby locations was being collected.
Officials also claimed that those involved in the burglary would be traced and arrested soon.
