As flood level reached an extremely high level in the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala on Friday evening, local authorities decided to breach the Right Retired Embankment in Kasur.

The decision to breach the Right Retired Embankment was taken in view of the prevailing flood situation in this Punjab district. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) director general said the decision was taken in view of the changing flood situation. He said the breach would save the city.

An Emergency Alert issued on Friday evening said that flood reached the highest level in Sutlej River in Ganda Singh Wala. Waterflow at Ganda Singh Wala crossed 385,000 cusecs on Friday and this was the highest level in the last three decades. The water flow may increase further in the next few hours.

As a severe flood situation is threatening Kasur and adjoining areas, the local authorities have told the public to make safety arrangements and follow the instructions of the local administration.
