Rising inflation in the country has already broken the backbone of the common man but prices of ghee and cooking oil have again increased in Karachi, reported by 24NewsHD TV on Monday.
According to details, the A and B brands of companies enhanced the prices. The price of A brand cooking oil jumped from Rs550 to Rs590 per liter.
The cooking oil of the B brand is being sold in the market at Rs500 instead of Rs450 per liter. B brand of cooking oil is available at Rs480 per liter instead of Rs450.
A shopkeeper said that an increase in prices has been witnessed during the last fifteen to twenty days. The shopkeeper further revealed that prices were increased due to the difference between demand and supply.
The outgoing year, 2025, proved to be an inflationary tsunami, devastating household budgets as prices of food and essential commodities surged to record levels and spilled over into the incoming year, 2026.
Pulses, vegetables, fruits, meat, chicken, milk, yoghurt, flour, bread, and even a cup of tea became crushingly expensive, eroding the purchasing power of salaried classes.
Prices of pulses rose by Rs100 per kg, chicken meat by Rs100 to Rs200, vegetables by Rs50, while fruit prices jumped by up to 50 per cent.
At the start of 2025, chicken was priced between Rs350 and Rs400 per kg, which now stands at Rs650.
