The Justice Committee of Islamabad, chaired by Islamabad High Court Chief Sarfaraz Dogar, reviewed progress on the Islamabad Model Jail project and directed authorities to ensure its completion by June 30, 2026, without any further delay.
According to an official announcement, a high-level meeting was held with the participation of the law secretary, interior secretary, prosecutor general, Islamabad advocate general, Islamabad Police inspector general, officials from the Law and Justice Division, NCCIA director general and other senior officers.
The meeting focused on issues and progress related to the construction of the Model Jail. The committee was informed that the project has reached its final stages, with 85 percent of the physical construction work completed so far. However, only 15 percent financial progress has been recorded to date.
The Islamabad chief commissioner briefed the participants that the remaining construction work is progressing steadily and reaffirmed that the project’s completion date is set for June 30, 2026.
Chief Justice Sarfaraz Dogar directed the concerned departments to finalize all remaining construction work within the stipulated timeline. He emphasized that administrative preparations, including the appointment of jail staff, should be carried out simultaneously to avoid delays after the completion of the building.
The chief justice instructed that the facility be made fully operational so that the transfer of prisoners from Islamabad to the new Model Jail can begin from July 1, 2026.
To address financial and administrative hurdles, the chief justice directed the interior secretary to coordinate with the finance secretary for the resolution of issues related to the project’s funding. It was also decided that the finance secretary will be invited to the next meeting of the Justice Committee for deliberations.
