A consumer protection court in Karachi South heard on Tuesday the case against the ban on wearing shalwar kameez in a private hotel of the megacity, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

During the hearing of the case, lawyers appeared on behalf of the hotel management and submitted a counter-petition.

The hotel management’s lawyer submitted that the petition is inadmissible and should be rejected.

The court has called for arguments from the lawyers of both the parties at the next hearing and adjourned further hearing till August 11.

Petitioner’s lawyer Barrister Haseeb Jamali submitted that the hotel management has submitted a reply and has submitted objections and is objecting to the incident instead of regretting it.

It is their right to defend themselves, but the ban on national dress is regrettable, Haseeb Jamali argued.

Advocate Latif Baloch said we will give a full answer to the hotel management in the arguments at the next hearing.

It is not my personal issue, this is a matter of the dignity of the country's national dress, petitioner Latif Baloch said.

In the petition, an apology and a compensation of Rs10 million have been sought from the hotel management, he added.

The hotel management asked him to leave the hotel for wearing a shalwar qameez, petitioner Latif Baloch said.
