The two-day Pakistan Economic Summit 2026 commenced in Islamabad on Wednesday, bringing together members of the business community from across the country to discuss strategies for strengthening the national economy.
Addressing the summit, former caretaker federal minister Gohar Ejaz said Pakistan's business community was committed to improving the country's economy and had no role in politics. He said Pakistan's economy was facing numerous challenges, adding that the business community was striving to help put the economy on a stronger footing.
Highlighting the country's economic situation, Gohar Ejaz said Pakistan's exports had remained stagnant, stressing that sustainable economic development was the key to resolving the country's problems. He noted that the economy had remained stagnant for the past four years and said Pakistan's economy currently stood at around $400 billion.
"Our goal is to take the country's economy to $1 trillion," Gohar Ejaz said, calling for concerted efforts to achieve sustained economic growth and expand Pakistan's export base.
The two-day summit is being attended by representatives of the business community from across Pakistan, who are expected to deliberate on measures aimed at promoting investment, boosting exports and accelerating economic growth.
