A fierce police encounter unfolded in the Patan Kot Kora Jhand area within the limits of Police Station Saddar Karor Pacca, where a team from the Crime and Criminal Detection (CCD) Circle Lodhran exchanged fire with armed suspects, 24NewsHD TV Channel reported on Sunday.
According to police sources, the CCD team was present in the area to arrest proclaimed offenders. During the operation, three unidentified armed individuals approached on a CG 125 motorcycle. When signalled to stop, the suspects opened fire on the CCD team with clear intent to kill.
In response, CCD officers retaliated with return fire under the right of self-defence. Once the gunfire ceased, a search operation was conducted, during which one suspect was found critically injured. He succumbed to his wounds on the spot.
The deceased was later identified as Sajid alias Gaddola, son of Ashraf. A 30-bore pistol, along with ammunition, was recovered from his possession.
Investigations revealed that the deceased robber was involved in a 2025 robbery in Jalalpur, Multan, during which an innocent citizen was shot and injured. In 2023, he also shot and wounded a head constable of the jail police during a robbery.
Moreover, Sajid had committed multiple house robberies in Lodhran and Bahawalpur, with cases registered against him in the respective police stations. He was wanted in 62 serious criminal cases, including robbery, street crime, and possession of illegal weapons across Lodhran, Bahawalpur, and Multan districts.
Two of his accomplices managed to flee under the cover of darkness. Police teams have launched a pursuit, and checkpoints across the region have been activated to intercept the fugitives.
