Police in Narowal have arrested the husband and father-in-law of a newly-married woman, Nadia Shaheen, who was burnt to death after sprinkled with petrol in Narowal, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Monday.

Police have launched an investigation into the death of the woman after her husband was accused of murdering her and allegedly attempting to burn her body. The incident occurred in Ghaziwal village, within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, and has shocked the local community.
According to the first information report (FIR), the victim, identified as Nida Shaheen, had been married for only three months. The complaint alleges that she had been subjected to repeated domestic violence during her marriage and was allegedly forced to leave her husband’s home on several occasions following disputes.
Police said that, according to the FIR, the husband, identified as Hammad Sohail, had recently reconciled with his wife and brought her back home. However, the complaint alleges that early the following morning, he and several family members assaulted Nida Shaheen. The FIR further claims that she was strangled to death and that an attempt was later made to burn her body.
Authorities responded to the incident after receiving information and shifted the victim’s body to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigators say the medical report and forensic evidence will play an important role in determining the exact cause of death and supporting the ongoing investigation.
According to preliminary information shared by police, investigators are examining whether the alleged motive was linked to the husband’s reported desire to marry another woman. A criminal case has been registered, and police have initiated legal proceedings. Officials stated that witness statements are being recorded, forensic evidence is being collected, and all relevant facts will be presented to the court.
