The Punjab Home Department on Monday extended the ban imposed under Section 144 on flying drones in open-air spaces across the province for another 30 days, citing security concerns, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
According to a spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department, the complete ban on outdoor drone operations will remain in force throughout the province.
The spokesperson said the restriction had been imposed in view of prevailing security concerns and to ensure public safety.
However, limited use of small drones had been permitted inside halls and marquees during indoor events. The spokesperson clarified that organizers of such events would be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of drones within enclosed venues.
As per a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, intelligence and law enforcement agencies had been exempted from the restriction.
The spokesperson said that maintaining public safety, law and order, and protecting lives and property remained the Punjab government’s top priorities.
The restriction had been imposed by the Secretary Home Punjab under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.
The Home Department had directed district administrations and police authorities throughout Punjab to ensure strict implementation of the orders.
