Women in Afghanistan continue to face severe restrictions under the Taliban administration, with human rights organisations raising strong protests against what they describe as the systematic denial of basic rights and dignified living, 24NewsHD TV channel reported on Sunday.
According to Afghan media outlet Hasht-e Subh, the new academic year has begun in the country, yet millions of girls remain deprived of their fundamental right to education.
The Sons of Freedom Movement has termed the continued ban on girls’ education a clear violation of women’s basic rights, warning that a society which deprives half its population of education can never achieve stability, development or justice.
Women’s organisations have also criticised the policy, describing it as part of a deliberate and systematic approach by the Taliban authorities to marginalise women and exclude them from public life.
Despite widespread international criticism over the ban on girls’ education, the Taliban administration has shown little indication of reversing its stance, the report noted.
Experts warn that the policies targeting women are likely to have far-reaching consequences for Afghanistan’s education system, economy and social structure.
They argue that by removing women from public life, the authorities risk deepening inequality and undermining long-term national development.
