Pakistan on Friday decided to expand the domestic flight operation from June 1.
According to the decision taken by the federal government in consultation with the provincial governments, the domestic flight operation would be increased up to 40-45 percent. The decision has been taken keeping in view people’s demand and the ongoing smart lockdown in the country.
The domestic flight operation will be expanded in Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta, according to Abdul Sattar Khokhar, senior joint secretary and spokesperson for the Aviation Division.
Earlier on May 16, a limited domestic flight operation began from Karachi airport when two flights — one operated by the national carrier and the other by a private airline — left for Lahore and Islamabad, respectively. The domestic flight operation remained suspended for nearly two months.
The government had announced resumption of the domestic flight operations from Karachi, Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta airports due to growing demand and ease in coronavirus restrictions across the country.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the Airport Security Force had made elaborate arrangements to ensure social distancing during boarding, check-in and disembarkation. It was mandatory for every passenger to wear mask while entering the airport. In the aircraft, one seat each was left vacant between every two passengers.
