A man, a woman and a child have died after falling from a high-rise residential block in south London, the Metropolitan Police said, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emergency services were called at around 7:29am on Wednesday to a property on Churchyard Row in the Elephant and Castle area, after reports that people had fallen from height.
Police confirmed that despite immediate resuscitation efforts by responding crews, all three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
The incident is being treated as unexpected, according to the Metropolitan Police Service, which said formal identification of the deceased is currently underway. Their next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Work is underway to formally identify those who died. Their next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.”
The incident occurred at flats on Churchyard Row in Elephant and Castle, a busy residential and commercial area in south London.
The London Ambulance Service said it was alerted at 7:31am and dispatched multiple resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and specialists from its hazardous area response team (HART).
A trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance was also deployed to assist at the scene.
“Our first paramedic arrived in around four minutes,” a spokesperson said. “Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, three people were pronounced dead at the scene.”
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact investigators by calling 101 as inquiries continue.
