Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Ishaq Dar has declared that Pakistan and China stand united in support of just and inclusive global governance architecture, anchored in international law, with the United Nations at its core, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Friday.
Addressing the meeting of Group of Friends of Global Governance hosted by the Permanent Mission of People's Republic of China at UN Headquarters in New York on Thursday which was chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Ishaq Dar said Pakistan-China friendship is guided by the strategic vision of their leadership and aspirations of their peoples and has grown from strength to strength through decades of mutual trust and respect, bilateral support and commonality of views on major world issues.
Pakistan deeply values China’s role as a stabilizing force in international affairs and appreciates its consistent support for the sovereignty, development, and prosperity of developing nations, he added.
While expressing strong support for China's Global Governance Initiative, Ishaq Dar reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to multilateralism, called for reforming of global governance structures, and emphasized the centrality of the United Nations in the international system.

H.E. Mr Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, H.E. Ms Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General, H.E. Ambassador Fu Cong, Permanent Representative of China, Excellencies, Distinguished Delegates, Ladies and Gentlemen, Good morning and Assalamu Alaikum. It is a privilege to participate in this important meeting organized by China. Let me start by commending the visionary leadership of China for its steadfast commitment to strengthening multilateralism and revitalizing international cooperation at a moment of profound global uncertainty.
We are living in a time when the international community is confronted with multiple and interconnected crises. Protracted conflicts, widening inequalities, rising debt distress, climate emergencies, disruptions to global supply chains, food and energy insecurity, and the governance challenges posed by emerging technologies are testing the resilience of the multilateral system.
At the same time, faith in collective action is eroding, with unilateralism and the selective application of international law undermining global stability. In this uncertain environment, the world urgently needs renewed solidarity and a more effective system of global governance anchored in the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.
For Pakistan, multilateralism is not an abstract aspiration but a principled commitment rooted in cooperation and collective responsibility. The Founding Father of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah declared that “Pakistan will never be found lacking in upholding the principles of the United Nations Charter.” Today, that commitment remains unwavering.

Excellencies, President Xi Jinping’s Global Governance Initiative represents a timely, comprehensive, and forward-looking framework for addressing the governance deficits of our age. Anchored in the five core principles of sovereign equality, international rule of law, multilateralism, a people-centered approach, and real actions, the Initiative resonates directly with the aspirations of the international community for a fairer and more representative global order.
Importantly, the Initiative seeks to reform and improve, not replace the existing international system. It reinforces the centrality of the United Nations while advocating greater representation and voice for the Global South in global decision-making processes.
Pakistan fully supports this Initiative. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has rightly described it as a historic step toward strengthening the multilateral system to better address the contemporary challenges of peace and development facing humanity.
The Global Governance Initiative also complements President Xi’s other important global public goods, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative. Together, these initiatives provide an articulate vision for promoting sustainable development, collective security, inter-civilization harmony, and equitable governance. Excellencies,
Pakistan has a clear and consistent vision - one that seeks a just, equitable and inclusive world order. We believe that global governance reform must prioritize the concerns and aspirations of developing countries. We need a more democratic international financial architecture, greater climate justice, fairer trade and development systems, and inclusive governance frameworks for emerging technologies.
We also believe that international law must be applied uniformly and without double standards. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected. Cooperation rather than confrontation should be the default setting in international relations. Peaceful settlement of disputes should be the norm, and longstanding issues must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
Each state must ensure the faithful implementation of international treaties, and people living under foreign occupation must be enabled to exercise their right to self-determination in accordance with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
Excellencies, Pakistan had warmly welcomed the establishment of the Group of Friends of Global Governance at the United Nations last year. We view it as an inclusive platform for dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building on the future of multilateralism and global governance reform.
The United Nations, despite its imperfections, remains humanity’s most indispensable institution for advancing peace, development, and human dignity. As the organization marks its 80th anniversary, we must collectively ensure that it is strengthened and equipped to respond effectively to the realities of the 21st century.
The UN Security Council must become more democratic, representative, and accountable. The small and medium States which form the vast majority of the UN Members must be fully and adequately represented on the Security Council. Adding new permanent members would violate the fundamental principle of sovereign equality and make the Council even less representative.
Excellencies, Pakistan will continue to work closely with China and all international partners to advance equitable development, strengthen multilateral cooperation, uphold international law, and strive to promote lasting peace and stability throughout the world. China can always count on Pakistan’s steadfast support for the vision of building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind. I thank you.
