Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has divulged an ambitious plan to revive the province's healthcare system, promising to elevate the quality of medical services to new heights, reported the 24NewsHD TV channel,
Addressing as chief guest at the 3rd Vice Chancellors, Principals, and Medical Superintendents Conference here on Saturday, Mohsin said that Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and MS team are an integral part of the healthcare delivery system of the province.
Naqi informed the doctors that the upgradation of Mayo Hospital's emergency department served as a model for the transformation envisioned for all 32 hospitals in the province. “By January 31, the entire healthcare network is expected to be rejuvenated.”
He acknowledged the commendable state of the primary health sector but highlighted the dire need for improvements in specialized healthcare services, which had long been neglected due to financial constraints.
Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi said that an allocation of Rs 26 billion is required for the essential upgradation of hospitals.
In a resolute statement, he assured the public that if an additional 50 billion was required for this endeavor, it would be provided without hesitation.
Naqvi stressed that the true beneficiaries of this investment would be the people, provided the funds were spent honestly and efficiently. He emphasized that every rupee allocated should contribute to the betterment of the healthcare sector.
To ensure a successful hospital upgrade program, Chief Minister Naqvi pledged to follow the recommendations and guidance of Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and Medical Superintendents (MS).
He underscored the importance of these stakeholders taking ownership of the hospitals, emphasizing their vital role in the process.
Naqvi noted that the hospital upgrades aimed at enhancing the convenience and well-being of the public, and therefore, Vice-Chancellors, Principals, and MS should work diligently to minimize inconvenience to the patients during the transformation process.
He expressed confidence that their collective efforts over three to four months could bring significant relief to the people.
Recognizing the need for administrative training, Chief Minister Naqvi revealed plans to train professors, doctors, and principals in effective administration.
Drawing on his own experiences, he highlighted the importance of administration training, recounting challenges faced during the launch of a news channel where administration knowledge was lacking.
Discussing the capacity and patient care in hospitals, Naqvi clarified that 40 thousand patients were being treated on 31 thousand beds. He acknowledged the doctors' dedication and kindness, acknowledging their efforts in treating more patients than capacity allowed.
The Chief Minister praised the doctors for their compassion, highlighting their commitment to providing care even in the face of limited resources, ensuring that patients were not sent home due to bed shortages.
Naqvi emphasized that such dedication contributed significantly to the welfare of the people and was deserving of recognition and gratitude.
The CM emphasized that education, healthcare, and inflation are three areas that held the key to providing much-needed relief to the people.
“The government aims to address these challenges with determination and vigor,” he said.
He dispelled the notion that doctors alone bore the responsibility for the healthcare system's shortcomings. He questioned the capability of doctors to deliver top-notch care without the necessary resources and infrastructure.
Recognizing that optimal performance is unattainable without adequate facilities, he underscored the critical need for resource enhancement.
“To redress this imbalance, the government embarked on an ambitious endeavor to revamp Punjab's healthcare infrastructure,” he said, adding that twenty thosands new beds would be introduced in the hospitals for the hapless patients of the province.

Recognizing the importance of equipping principals and professors with essential management skills, the government pledged to conduct workshops for administrative training.
The Chief Minister emphasized that doctors do not intentionally misdiagnose patients and stressed that any errors are likely rare, at just 1% of cases.
The Chief Minister also advocated the creation of private practice rooms within hospitals to elevate the standard of care.
The Chief Minister passionately expressed his belief that government hospitals should be the first choice for patients seeking to preserve their lives.
He highlighted the pivotal role of hospital principals and medical superintendents in enhancing hospital conditions and suggested they actively participate in determining hospital shift schedules.
It was acknowledged that hospitals can generate revenue from their laboratories, a valuable resource.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister expressed the hope that an additional 10,000 nurses would be deployed in Punjab under the caretaker government, reinforcing the healthcare workforce.
