The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Punjab has strongly criticized the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) for what it described as poor performance and deviation from its core objectives, calling for the authorities to form a high-level judicial commission to audit the body’s performance, finances, and administration.
According to 24NewsHD TV channel, the demand was made during an emergency meeting of PMA Punjab, held at PMA House Lahore under the chairmanship of Dr Kamran Saeed, the association’s president.
The meeting was attended by General Secretary Dr Kamran Ahmed, Vice President (Lahore Division) Dr Nadir Khan, Finance Secretary Dr Riaz Zulqarnain, and members of the provincial council.
During the meeting, participants held a detailed discussion on the performance of the Punjab Healthcare Commission.
They endorsed the Kasur chapter of PMA’s resolution, which criticized the PHC for its ineffective functioning and supported the legal notice served to the Commission.
The members expressed serious concern that the PHC was allegedly ignoring unqualified practitioners (quacks) while creating unnecessary hurdles for qualified doctors, terming such actions unacceptable.
The PMA officials asserted that the PHC had strayed from its original mandate, and its disappointing performance had further deteriorated healthcare conditions across Punjab, damaging the image of the provincial government.
The association urged the government to immediately constitute a judicial commission to conduct a comprehensive performance, financial, and administrative audit of the Punjab Healthcare Commission to ensure transparency and accountability.
