The National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee on Human Rights Wednesday passed the Journalist Protection Bill 2021 with some amendments.
According to the 24News HD TV Channel, a meeting of the NA committee convened under the chairmanship of Convener Shazia Murree who approved the amendments in the bill.
Shazia said that various journalists’ organizations cooperated a lot in drafting the protection bill for journalists and gave their opinion on it.
The committee convener said that the bill was drafted through the efforts of journalists for their protection.
The bill was moved in the NA last May from Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Lal Chand meant to protect, promote and ensure the independence, safety, impartiality, and freedom of expression of journalists.
The bill offered journalists a right to carry out their work in conflict-hit areas in Pakistan without any threat, harassment or a fear of persecution.
While the government will ensure the protection of journalists from all forms of violence and exploitation.
