Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday apologised to Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani over the airstrikes he ordered on Doha a few days ago.

According to reports, Netanyahu apologised to al-Thani in a phone call from White House and voiced regret over violation of Qatari sovereignty and the death of a Qatari security guard in the September strikes.

The call to the Qatari prime minister came as Netanyahu met US President Donald Trump in Washington. A Qatari technical team is also said to be at the White House.

Netanyahu had earlier been unrepentant for the September 9 strike in a residential area of Doha that targeted Hamas leaders who were to review a US ceasefire proposal in Gaza.

But US President Donald Trump, who has close relations with Qatar, has said he was unhappy about the strike and he has been seeking again a truce in Gaza.
