Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Monday that she would not tolerate any criticism of the province, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the electric buses project in Faisalabad, she said emphatically that she could tolerate criticism directed at her, but not of the Punjab.
While referring to the hooliganism witnessed at the PTI’s rally in Peshawar a couple of days ago, she said that those who would malign others now themselves had become a laughing stock. “Even the PML-N has gone through tough times. But never ever did the party workers resort to throwing shoes and bottles at each other, the way PTI workers did at the Peshawar gathering,” Maryam added.
She also asserted that there should be an end to an ‘interference’ in the Punjab’s affairs. “Why do some people have sleepless nights when we provide relief to consumers in electricity bills and when we carve out canals from our rivers?” she questioned.
“Let this thing be clear that we don’t need any advice as to how we could provide relief to our people. We don’t need to seek permission for that,” she said categorically.
Responding to the insistence by the PPP leaders that amounts should be disbursed among the flood-affected people under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP), she said that under the programme, each family received Rs10,000 only, while the Punjab government planned to give Rs1 million. “BISP is not a solution to each and every problem.”
The Punjab CM said that there would be uniform development in all Punjab cities.
She informed that soon work would start on the metro bus project in Faisalabad.
The Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar informed about the details of the e-bus project to chief minister. In the briefing, he said that there will be a total of 150 electric buses for Faisalabad Division and 30 electric buses will be operated in Faisalabad City in the first phase.
According to Bilal Akbar, in Faisalabad, electric buses will initially operate on a 22-km route from Prey Yousef Town to Seagull City and will be operated on routes approximately 18 kilometers long from University Roundabout to Sadhar. In which more than 24 thousand passengers will benefit from the Faisalabad Electro Bus every day.
According to the Transport Minister, there will be special seats for the elderly and special people in the electric bus and separate compartment will also be allocated for women.
Bilal Akbar said that the fare of the Faisalabad Electro Bus service has been fixed at Rs. 20. The electric bus will also be equipped with Wi-Fi, mobile charging and CCTV cameras. Charging station for electric buses has also been established in Faisalabad.
