Korkut Bey of Dirilis Ertugrul passes away

Sad news for Dirilis: Ertugrul fans as Hüseyin Özay, who essayed the role of Korkut Bey in the historic Turkish Turkish drama serial passed away Tuesday.

Korkut Bey was the Bey of the Dodurga tribe and an older brother of Hayme and father of Tuğtekin, adoptive father of Banu Çiçek and an uncle of Ertuğrul.

His main role came in the second part of the serial while he also made a short appearance in the first season in scene where he was invited by the Emir El Aziz- the Ayyubid Emir of Aleppo along with other Turkish tribes chieftains to win their allegiance to form a front against Sultan Alladin.

He admires his nephew Ertuğrul and struggles to pick sides between him and his son Tugtekin.

He is manipulated by his wife Aytolun, and is eventually poisoned to death by her. He also becomes the father-in-law of Gokce Hatun played by Burcu Kiratli.

Burcu took to Instagram and paid rich tribute to her colleague while praying him a heavenly abode hereafter.

 While working as a voice actor, Ozay stepped onto the stage with theatre in 1980 and then acted in many theatres, TV series and movies.

Voice artist Onur Akay, who is also his neighbour, announced the death of Hüseyin Özay. Akay said: “We lost the master actor Hüseyin Özay, who was my neighbour in Ortaköy. We had very good conversations with him from time to time. We watched him as ‘Korkut Bey’ in the series ‘Diriliş Ertuğrul’. It caught his attention,” he said.

It was learned that the funeral of Hussein will be offered on Wednesday, August 4, after the noon prayer.

Mehmet Bozdağ, the producer of Diriliş Ertuğrul, wrote on his social media account. “I learned with deep sadness the death of the valuable actor of our TV series Diriliş Ertuğrul and the esteemed theatre artist Hüseyin Özay. I wish God’s mercy on the master actor, and patience for his family, fans and the art community.”

Hüseyin Özay was born on January 1, 1959, in Samsun Vezirköprü, started to study theatre by writing to Samsun Municipality conservatory.

He applied for TRT’s voice-over exam in 1986 and was among the 69 people selected in this exam, where five thousand people applied. While working as a voice actor, he stepped on the stage with theatre in 1980 and then took part in many theatres, series and films.
