Intercity public transport remains off the road on 2nd day of strike

The commuters are facing great hardships as public transporters are observing country-wide wheeljam strike which has entered a second consecutive day on Wednesday, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

The Transport Owners Association gave a wheeljam strike call on Tuesday against a hike in token tax, income tax and transfer fee by the government. The transporters vowed to continue their strike till the acceptance of their demands. 

All intercity public transport has come to a halt across the country.

According to details, the owners of vans and coaster buses stopped the transport service from the morning in protest against the increase in registration fees of new vehicles and other heavy taxes.

In Lahore, on the call of Pakistan Public Transporters, Babu Sabu Chowk Toll Plaza, Niazi Adda, Lorry Adda, and Jinnah Bus Stand remained shut. 

The government has increased the route toll fee from Rs400 to Rs600. Transporters said that their business was being destroyed following frequent increases in taxes and toll taxes. 

The Punjab Intercity Bus Owners and Operators Union and All Pakistan Public Transport Owners Federation are also observing wheeljam strike. 

Transporters in Rawalpindi and Islamabad too are taking part in the strike. They demanded of the government to reduce the fuel prices and other taxes. They also called upon the administration to stop the motorway police from issuing wrong challans and thus imposing heavy fines.  

In the twin city, buses are totally off the road. However, Toyota Hiace service is being operative partially
