Two flights from China landed at Karachi and Islamabad Airports on Monday as CAA (Civil Aviation Authority) resumed flight operation with virus-hit country after the federal government acquired coronavirus testing kits.

Both Chinese flights collectively brought 275 passengers into Pakistan. The FIA established separate counters for the immigration at both the airports.

None of the passengers from both the flights has tested positive for the coronavirus. The Chinese flight CZ-5241 landed in Islamabad via Urumqi.

“We are resuming flight operations with China, a China Southern Airlines flight with 145 passengers on board will land at 9 am at Islamabad International Airport on Monday,” additional secretary of aviation Abdul Sattar Khokhar told a foreign news agency by text message.

Islamabad had on January 29 suspended flight operations to and from China amid rising casualties from the novel virus outbreak that the World Health Organization (WHO) promoted to a global health emergency last week.

Over 500 Pakistani students are based in Wuhan, where the first cases of the coronavirus were observed in December. So far, at least four Pakistani students in central Wuhan have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Air China made the first flight to land in Karachi on Monday morning after taking off from the Chinese capital Beijing.

PIA and two Chinese airlines — Air China and China Southern Airlines — will operate a total 12 flights per week between the two countries.
