Villagers in Tharparkar killed a cheetah, believed to have entered the villages from the Indian state of Rajasthan, for hunting their livestock, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

They claimed the cheetah came from India, it was causing damage to livestock in different villages of Islamkot tehsil. The wildlife department of Sindh officials said a team was called from Karachi to rescue the cheetah. “The residents had killed the beast before the team arrived.”

The cheetah, according to the people of the village, had made their lives miserable by hunting and killing their cattle and sheep.

“The cheetah was seen in different villages of Islamkot tehsil for the last two days. It was causing panic in the area. When the carnivorous animal came out to prey, the villagers tracked it down and managed to kill it.”

They believed that a leopard, commonly referred to as a cheetah or a taindwa crossed the Tharparkar-Pak India border and reached the Islamkot area.

Sindh wildlife department Deputy Conservator Hayat Mir Ijaz Talpur said they wanted to call a team from Karachi to rescue it, but the local residents killed the leopard.

The locals said that a leopard came to our area from India last year that was killed too.

Experts say that due to the loss of inhabits and shortage of food wild animals make their way into residential areas in search of food.
