Establishment Division, with the approval of the Prime Minister, has issued a formal order to acquit Grade 21 officer, Captain (retd) Muhammad Mahmood of charges and reinstate him, reported 24NewsHD TV channel on Sunday.

13 officers engaged in the Ring Road scam have been acquitted, including former commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood and land acquisition collector Waseem Tabish.

Former Commissioner Rawalpindi Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood, an alleged key figure in the Rawalpindi Ring Road scandal that came to light during the PTI regime, was given a clean chit by the inquiry committee set up by the present government and has been reinstated.

The allegations against the officers engaged in the Ring Road controversy have been probed under the Prime Minister's supervision.

Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood was arrested on July 14, 2021, and the federal government afterwards suspended him.

When the Rawalpindi Ring Road controversy broke last year, the former prime minister directed the inquiry.

13 civil officers, including former commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Mahmood and land acquisition collector Waseem Tabish, were found guilty in the investigation led by former commissioner Syed Gulzar Hussain Shah.

The case was then turned over to the anti-corruption department, which registered a case and opened an inquiry.

Waseem Tabish, the Land Acquisition Collector, and former Commissioner Muhammad Mahmood were both arrested.

Political figures at the forefront of the scandal have already received a clean chit.

It should be noted that the claims were re-investigated after the PML-N-led coalition government was formed.

In which 13 civil officers, including former Commissioner Muhammad Mahmood, were found not guilty.
