Govt trying to bring inflation down, says Shaukat Tareen

Federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tareen has said that inflation is rising in the country and the government is trying to bring it down, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Shaukat Tareen hinted at reviewing the government’s loan agreement with the International Monetary Fund saying that he would talk to the IMF regarding maintaining the same rate of tariff.

He said “We must concentrate on this thing that what relief we could get from the IMF.”

The finance minister said economic growth could be spurred through bringing improvement in agricultural and industrial sectors. 

He assured that all stakeholders would be involved in the budget preparation process in order to attain sustainable development and an inclusive growth. 

Addressing the Federation of Pakistan Chambers and Commerce and Industry via video link on Monday, the finance minister said a lot has to be done for workable and incremental changes in talks with the business community. 

He was of the view that growth in economy and fiscal consolidation could be achieved by imposing low tariff, broadening the tax net and introducing mandatory registration of potential taxpayers.

FPCCI President Mian Nasser Hayat Maggo apprised the finance minister of the issues the trader community is being faced in Pakistan. 

On this occasion, Mr Tareen also related his own experience with the Federal Board of Revenue. He said that the FBR annoyed him for 10 years. He said two times the FBR did his scrutiny. Once it had lost his file. He said LTU 1 and LTU 2 again started his scrutiny. He said if such a treatment was meted out to a former finance minister then one could imagine how the board would treat a common man. He said he would try to overhaul the FBR by stopping it from using intimidating tactics.
