Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz said that being a minister it does not mean that you have a licence to humiliate officers and this is not acceptable. So apologize to Assistant Commissioner Sialkot Sonia Sadaf, Maryam asked Firdous Ashiq Awan, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.

Maryam Nawaz said, “Civil servants and bureaucrats reach this place after thorough hard work, reading and passing competitive exams.”

The PML-N Vice-President said civil servants are not ‘selected’, a term which the opposition used frequently for the incumbent PTI government.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader from Sialkot, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar also severely criticised Firdous Ashiq Awan without naming her on the alleged rude behaviour with a government official in front of the public.

“Sorry for the unfortunate incident that took place with Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf in Sialkot's Ramzan Bazaar. I personally know her, she is a responsible and capable officer. The role of women in the governance system of our society should be appreciated,” Usman Dar said.

Chief Secretary Punjab Jawwad Rafique Malik while reacting to the Sialkot incident said that the unfair treatment meted out to an administrative officer in Sialkot’s Ramzan Bazaar is ‘condemnable’.

In a statement, Chief Secretary Punjab said that Assistant Commissioner Sonia Sadaf and other administrative officers are on the frontlines despite the scorching heat and corona pandemic.
