Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam chief (JUI-F) Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has been appointed President Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) unanimously to lead opposition parties’ alliance against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

Pakistan Muslims League Nawaz Spokesperson Maryam Aurangzaib confirmed the development and said PDM has appointed Fazl-ur-Rehman as alliance chief. This was decided in a PDM’s virtual meeting attended by PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, JUI-F chief Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, PML-N leaders and other opposition parties.

The PDM meeting decided to finalize the appointments on all other posts of the opposition alliance in the PDM’s Steering Committee.

PML-N Spokesperson said that PDM will start its campaign from the Quetta public rally on October 11.

PDM has already announced to hold the first public gathering in Baluchistan’s provincial capital Quetta on 11 October. The appointment of Moulana Fazl-ur-Rehman is another significant development since the PDM announced its first public rally after the September 20th All Parties Conference (APC) in which PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif, the former prime minister made a comeback to the national politics after almost a year and virtually addressed the multi parties gathering.

Addressing the participants of the conference via a video link from London, Nawaz Sharif said “We are not against Imran Khan. We are fighting against those who brought Imran Khan into power.”

It is pertinent to note that in the last 10 days, PML-N supremo made three hard-hitting speeches addressing the APC, and two speeches to PML-N workers, stirred the political temperatures in the country. The PTI government ministers termed Nawaz Sharif speeches as an attack on the state institutions and termed PML-N superior ‘anti-state’.

Maryam Aurangzaib said Nawaz Sharif has never compromised on the honour of the country and they are calling Nawaz Sharif a traitor!

Addressing a press conference at Parliament lodges, Islamabad, Maryam Aurangzeb alleged that Kashmir was sold out in Imran Khan's tenure. “If Modi does not pick up the phone, there is mourning in the cabinet.”

She said that a traitor is one who betrayed the constitution and by this definition only former dictator Pervaiz Musharraf is ‘traitor’. She said when Pervaiz Musharraf was given legal assistance, the Prime Minister was Imran Khan.

PML-N Spokesperson said, “Fatima Jinnah, Hussain Shaheed Suhrawardy, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto and now Nawaz Sharif were given gadari fatwas (declaring traitors) and patriot certificates are not required at all. If this chain of treason is not stopped, then we will tell by name who is a traitor and who committed treason. Those who are making statements of treason are not really loyal to the country. If the process of dragging institutions in politics does not stop here then we will respond.”

She said Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to Pakistan because at that time the country's security was strong and at that time Nawaz Sharif was the Prime Minister of Pakistan.

“Those who looted flour, sugar and medicine are sitting in the cabinet and whosoever conspires against the elected Prime Minister is a traitor,” she further said.

PML-N Spokesperson said Pakistan Electronic Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) issued an illegal and unconstitutional circular and these allegations are not new for PML-N.
