PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said the Centre remained limited to statements only amid the crisis generated by unprecedented rains in Karachi and it did not provide any support to Sindh.

The Sindh government did what it could, Shehbaz told reporters in the port city where he had arrived Wednesday on a two-day visit.

Criticising the PTI government, he said Prime Minister Imran Khan should have been in Karachi to monitor the situation but it didn’t happen. The Imran-led PTI government faced its biggest failure in Karachi, he noted.

Shehbaz said he also met former Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah. Various issues were discussed and obviously politics was also among the topics.

During the press talk, the PML-N president also answered different questions. One of them was about APC. Shehbaz said in his reply that the Rahbar Committee – comprising the members from different opposition parties – would meet in Islamabad on Thursday and would make decisions about the timing and agenda of APC.

I did not visit the city for politics, Shehbaz remarked and added that he had directed the party officeholders and workers to assist the provincial government in tacking the crisis and providing relief to the Karachiites.

Describing Imran as a person full of venom and vengeance, the PML-N president blasted him for accusing the opposition of speaking the language of India on the FATF (Financial Action Task Force) issue.

“Look! Who said this,” he remarked and recalled that it was “Prime Minister Imran Khan Niaz” who had stated that Modi’s victory would result in the resolution of the Kashmir issue. He also reminded the reporters, among other things, that Imran was dejected over Modi not attending his phone call.

Talk about any issue faced by the people and the country and the answer is the NRO by the prime minister and other government members, Shehbaz said.

Shehbaz said he had a detailed discussion with the people of Karachi who praised the PML-N for the progress made on different issues during the 2013-18 tenure.

Earlier in a tweet, the PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif thanked the people of Karachi for the warm reception and enthusiasm shown during his stay.
