Eight civilians, including women and children, were seriously injured after cross-border firing and shelling struck the Angoor Adda area of South Waziristan on April 26 and 29, according to a press release issued by the office of the deputy commissioner of South Waziristan Lower on Thursday.
The official statement said the shelling caused significant damage to civilian property, with several houses destroyed in the affected area. The incidents were reported to have spread fear and panic among residents. According to the press release, those injured on April 26 were identified as Rahimullah, 20, Zubair Bibi, 20, and Bibi Hawa, 28, all residents of Zawal Tehsil in the Angoor Adda area.
On April 29, the injured included Muslima Bibi, 13, Sanab, 3, Sapna Bibi, 8, Irshad, 10, and Robina Bibi, 32, all from Kanki village in Zawal Tehsil.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Bajaur district Shahid Ali Khan said at least 9 people were martyred in the firing by Afghan Taliban on a civilian population in Bajaur, including 3 women and 6 innocent children. During March and April 2026, mortar shells were fired by Afghanistan in various border areas of Bajaur, especially in Mamund and Salarzai.
The release of martyred list with full names by the Deputy Commissioner leaves no room for ambiguity about the loss of life and property caused by Afghan Taliban fire in Bajaur as there are already photos of these women and children released by locals after each incident. The repeated targeting of women and children by the Afghan Taliban shows their brutality. However, Pakistani army, in response to cross border firing, professionally targeted only the military posts and gun positions of the Afghan Taliban and did not allow any harm to the civilian population of Afghanistan. The local population of Bajaur has expressed deep grief and anger over this unprovoked shelling by the Afghan forces and has strongly condemned the targeting of innocent civilians. It should be noted that such incidents have occurred in the border areas of Khyber, Kurram and Waziristan before, in which precious human lives were lost.
