Even before the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology (JIC) becomes fully functional, decisions taken by the Specialized Health Department regarding senior appointments have sparked debate within medical circles.
According to official sources, preparations are under way to increase the age limit for two key positions at the Jinnah Institute of Cardiology, the Dean and the Medical Director, from the standard criteria to 70 years. Both appointments will be made for a fixed term of four years.
Sources said the move is aimed at accommodating senior doctors for these top administrative posts. In contrast, the age limit for the Hospital Director has been fixed at 55 years, while the age criteria for other positions at the institute will remain unchanged and in line with existing rules.
It has been confirmed that the relaxation in age limits applies exclusively to the posts of Dean and Medical Director, making them exceptions within the overall staffing framework of the institute.
The development has raised questions among sections of the medical community, as the institute has yet to formally commence operations, but key administrative policies are already being finalized.
Officials of the Specialized Health Department, however, maintain that the decisions have been taken in accordance with administrative requirements and institutional needs.
The Jinnah Institute of Cardiology is expected to play a major role in providing advanced cardiac care once it becomes operational.
