An Election Tribunal in Lahore has disposed of a petition filed by PTI senior leader Dr Yasmin Rashid against the notification confirming PML-N President Nawaz Sharif’s victory from NA-130 in the 2024 general elections, reported 24NewsHD TV channel.
The Election Tribunal’s judge Rana Zahid Mahmood pronounced the verdict on Tuesday, declaring that the petition is inadmissible.
Senior PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid had challenged the victory of Nawaz Sharif.
Barrister Asadullah Advocate gave arguments on behalf of Nawaz Sharif before the tribunal, which raised objections to the late filing of Dr Yasmin Rashid's petition.
Dr Yasmeen Rashid, a former Punjab health minister during Imran Khan’s government, is currently incarcerated in multiple cases linked to the May 9 riots last year, during which protesters targeted military installations following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan in a corruption case.
Jailed Dr Yasmeen Rashid had approached the election tribunal on April 16, 2025, seeking to nullify Nawaz Sharif’s victory in the February 8, 2024, general elections.
The petition, filed through her lawyers Ahmed Awais and Rana Mudassar, alleged that the Election Commission of Pakistan violated electoral laws by issuing the notification of Nawaz Sharif’s success.
During the 2024 general elections, Dr Rashid contested from NA-130 (Lahore-XIV) but was defeated by the PML-N supremo, who secured 171,024 votes. Dr Rashid finished second with 104,485 votes. She claimed that the election outcome was manipulated in favour of Nawaz Sharif.
