Pakistan Under-19 wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shayan has been ruled out of the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup after sustaining a nose fracture during a training session, team officials said on Friday.

Shayan was struck on the nose by a ball while wicket-keeping to a fast bowler during a scenario-based practice match.

He was immediately taken to a hospital, where X-rays confirmed the fracture.

The Pakistan team management said the player will not take further part in the tournament, dealing a setback to the side.

A replacement for Mohammad Shayan will be announced in due course, the officials added.

Pakistan are competing in the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, where each match carries significant importance in the race for the semi-finals.
