Kim Kardashian is at the centre of an internet frenzy for launching a controversial new product under her SKIMS shapewear brand that many fans say looks straight out of a horror movie.

The product, dubbed the 'Ultimate Face,' is a nude, skin-tight facial wrap that covers the entire head and neck, leaving only the face visible. Promoted as 'our first-ever face innovation' on SKIMS' official Instagram, the headwrap is crafted from the brand’s signature sculpting fabric and infused with collagen yarns.

It claims to offer “ultra-soft jaw support” while enhancing facial contours. But the internet wasn’t sold on its beauty benefits.

A promotional image of a model wearing the product quickly went viral, with many users comparing the look to The Silence of the Lambs villain Hannibal Lecter—specifically referencing the iconic scene in which Anthony Hopkins' character is strapped into a gurney wearing a muzzle.

Social media users were quick to mock the design. One commenter joked, “What in the Hannibal is this?” while another quipped, “Kim: New Hannibal Lecter nylon face wrap just dropped!” Others were simply baffled, asking if the post was an April Fools' prank.

“This looks like something from a sci-fi horror movie,” one person wrote. Another added, “There’s a 16-year-old girl out there thinking she needs to buy this crap.”

Despite the backlash, the product sold out on the SKIMS website within hours, proving that controversy might just be good for business. Some fans praised the innovative concept, though critics argued it continues a troubling trend of promoting unrealistic beauty standards.

“SKIMS: Making women feel bad about themselves since 2018,” one sarcastic commenter posted.

Others poked fun at the Kardashians more broadly. “If this works so well, why didn’t Kris Jenner use this instead of paying for a facelift?” one user wrote, referencing Kris Jenner’s recent cosmetic procedure by celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Steven M. Levine.

Kardashian, 44, has not publicly addressed the backlash, but the timing of the launch comes on the heels of another viral moment. The reality star and entrepreneur was widely mocked for her awkward runway walk during Balenciaga’s show at Paris Fashion Week earlier this month. Clips of her stiff stride quickly circulated online, with fans joking she looked like a “sleep-deprived toddler” or someone “walking to the bathroom at 4 a.m.”

While her sister Kendall Jenner is celebrated for her catwalk skills, Kim’s appearance had viewers both cringing and laughing. “Go Kim, give us nothing,” one commenter joked.
