An Anti-Corruption Establishment team arrested an Irrigation Department canal patwari red-handed while allegedly receiving a Rs15,000 bribe in McLeodganj, officials said.

The suspect was identified as Amjad, an irrigation department patwari posted in the area.

Anti-corruption officials said the action was taken on the complaint of a citizen. The team carried out the operation along with the civil magistrate of Minchinabad.

Officials said marked currency notes used for the alleged bribe were recovered from the suspect during the operation.

A case has been registered against Amjad, and legal proceedings have been initiated.

Circle Officer Akram Zaki said action against bribery would continue without discrimination.

“Those taking bribes do not deserve any concession,” he said.

He said anti-corruption authorities would not allow any government employee to exploit citizens.

Officials said further investigation into the case was underway.
