Negotiations between the government committee and the Joint Public Action Committee on the issue of refugee seats ended without a breakthrough, as both sides failed to resolve their differences despite continued dialogue.
The talks, held in Muzaffarabad, focused on the contentious issue of refugee representation, which has sparked growing political and public concern across Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). While negotiators described the discussions as constructive, a deadlock remained over key demands raised by the Action Committee.
Speaking after the meeting, Rana Sanaullah said the negotiations had not failed and would resume before June 9 in an effort to reach a mutually acceptable solution. He announced that an all-parties conference would be convened to discuss the refugee seats issue and seek broader political consensus.
Despite the government's request to postpone the planned protest, the Joint Public Action Committee categorically rejected the proposal and maintained its call for a statewide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike on June 9.
According to committee representatives, the formation of the Joint Public Action Committee reflects a unified stance on the issue, and preparations for the protest campaign are continuing across the region.
Committee member Shaukat Nawaz Mir said the public movement would continue until the committee's demands are accepted.
“We welcome the government's serious efforts and willingness to engage in dialogue, but the protest will continue until our demands are met,” he stated.
Shaukat Nawaz Mir also appealed to the citizens of Azad Kashmir and overseas Kashmiris to actively participate in the June 9 protest and intensify preparations for the planned strike.
In a statement issued following the talks, the Action Committee reiterated that the call for a statewide wheel-jam and shutter-down strike remains effective for now, despite ongoing negotiations with government representatives.
The committee emphasized that further announcements would be made if additional progress is achieved during future rounds of dialogue.
