Former US first lady Rosalynn Carter, who died last week at the age of 96, will be buried at her home in Georgia later Wednesday following a private funeral service attended by her ailing husband Jimmy Carter.
The burial comes after a public ceremony Tuesday in Atlanta where President Joe Biden and former president Bill Clinton, as well as all five living first ladies, paid their final respects.
Jimmy Carter, 99, who served as president from 1977-1981, joined both ceremonies in a wheelchair looking frail.
Wednesday's service took place at the Baptist church where the Carters worshipped in Plains, Georgia, the small town in which the much-loved couple led a modest life post-presidency.
A key part of her husband's political career, Rosalynn Carter was known for her work promoting democracy and health programs around the world in the years that followed his presidential term.
The couple married in 1946, forming a famously close union that lasted 77 years.
When she died, Jimmy Carter said in a statement that she had been "my equal partner in everything I ever accomplished."
